The first thing I completed this week was the Final crisis brain storm! This was a super fun, creative, and easy way to this about our characters in a new lens.
Little Brain’s Final Crisis
Then I completed all three of my daily creates! Check out which ones I completed and the process I took to get there in my blog post!
Daily Creates- Week 11
Then I completed two video assignments for my 10 stars with week! One was a vlog about my day (5 stars)! The other was Text + Diagram -> Movie assignment (5 stars) which I made about Little Brain my character’s origin story! My favorite to film was by far the origin story. It was so different and creative from anything I have ever done! Check them both out in my blog posts about them!
Take us through your day!- Vlog Style
Text + Diagram –> Movie: Little Brain’s Origin
Then to finish up this week some of my many comments!!
Head in the Clouds
For one of my video bank assignments this week I completed the Text + Diagram -> Movie assignment worth 5 stars. I decided to make this the assignment that I incorporated my character into since its an easier way for me to explain and layout my character’s origin story using text and diagrams rather than just talking for a whole video or audio recording.
To complete this assignment I first watched some previously made ones to see what I liked, didn’t like, and to get some idea of how to create this. Then I started creating the beginning introduction and basic story line text slides because that was simple I already had my origin story created. I chose to use the star wars like title slides because I think they are effective when using a lot of text on one slide without looking sloppy. Then I went back in and added sounds from freesounds.org, audio songs from freemusicarchive.org, and images from google to help move the story forward. Lastly I created a diagram/timeline to recap the story I told. This I created by hand because it was the most effective way to create and incorporate this into my movie. Lastly I uploaded it to youtube!
Below is my final product hope you enjoyed!!!
The other video bank assignment I chose to do this week was the Take us through your day assignment worth 5 stars. I chose this assignment for two reasons, one I already completed one assignment worth 5 stars, so the thought of only have to create one other assignment and being done with my stars for the week was awesome. The second reason because I completed the where your shoes take you video assignment and I thought it would be interesting to create a video showing basically the same thing, but it a completely different way.
To create this assignment I recored myself using my iPhone since it was vlog style the phone was the most practical way to film clips of me going through my daily life tasks. After I recored all my clips I simply entered them onto my computer and uploaded them into iMovie for editing. Since I recored this using my phone throughout a day full of activities I first raised the volume on all my clips so when I was talking that audio was clear and audible. Then I trimmed some of the more boring moments of my day out such as me sitting at my desk for two hours reading my cognitive psychology textbook. Then I added in some music, title and text slides to finish it off. Then I uploaded it to youtube and shared it here!
If I was going to change one thing about completing this assignment I would have picked a better day to film myself. I chose a day where my classes for that day all happened to be cancelled so there was a lot of boring errands, and down time which in reality does not make for an eventful vlog! But the concept still came through I think! Enjoy!
Three daily creates this week!
First: Pop Art
To complete this daily create I chose an image I really like from my photo album and put it through the pop art editing website they provided in the original tweet. Then I tweeted the result!
Second: Illustrate the Idiom
To complete this daily create I basically just looked up some classic idioms and picked one that I thought I could illustrate it in a unique and clever way! Then I tweeted it!
Third: Behind door 106
To complete this daily create I looked through my photo album to see what sparked an idea in my head. Once I saw this picture I knew it would be perfect. It is beautiful, creative, and full of possibility just like everything we do in ds106.
I think a really interesting final crisis would be to have the superhero, super villain, or sidekick like myself lose their power for a brief time. I like the idea of their power only being missing or lost for a brief time that way it is not as if they just turn normal and change their whole lifestyle. Instead it is a huge adaption in a small amount of time. I think it could be really interesting for our characters to have to continue fighting crime, or causing crime without theirs powers, until they return. And for a super human what is a bigger crisis then losing what makes you super?
For example my character Little Brain can read minds. So for some reason there is a block in his mind reading abilities for a few days, but a villain is on the loose. He can not take a day off from saving lives so what can he change, adapt, do to save the city? Maybe he uses his extensive knowledge to get an edge on the villain, maybe he uses his normality to sneak up on the evil guy. What do they do to be super when they are really just normal! Plus then there is a super come back story to end it, and who does not love a come back story?
First thing I did this week was my daily creates!
Daily Creates- Week #10
Then I got to work on my 10 stars of Video Assignments!! My favorite one of this week to create was the video to 16 Year Old Me! It was so fun to make, and reminded me about how much I have grown since I was 16!
16 Year Old Me Video
Where my feet take me?
Then I completed the video essay film about superhero film/show! I completed mine on a scene from The Flash!
Video Essay- The Flash
Then here are some of my comments on people’s blogs!
The healthy vine challenge
This was a challenging assignment for me. I personally have never consciously broken down a movie or tv show into such small components before. At first it was really difficult for me to grasp some of these concepts. Then the more and moreI learned about them the easier they were for me to pick out. For this assignment in particular I wanted to do it based off of something I was not as familiar with to see if I could still pick out these elements without previous exposure. I chose one of the recommend tv shows from Netflix The Flash. I watched about 12 minutes of the first episode until I settled on a scene. It was actually quite early in the show as well. Once I picked the clip and the reasons behind why I picked it I began the creating the video stage. To do this I uploaded the clip into iMovie first. Then I trimmed it to the desired scene. I also went ahead and added in the same clip on extremely slowed down that way the viewers can see the clip first in its entirety then they could see if slower when the elements were being pointed out. After this I used the voice memo app on my phone to record my comments. I then layered the comments in with the video clips adjusting volume levels so everything was clear! Here were my main cinematic elements chosen and my final product! ENJOY!
- Shot/Reverse shot was an extremely effective way to film a group conversation! Providing a realistic feel to a staged conversation.
- Camera Focus
- Scene background staging
For my last video assignment of the week I chose Product Review. This assignment was worth 3 stars! To complete this project I simply chose an item in my house that I use extremely often and reviewed it, my Swell water bottle! I recorded this video using the photo booth on my laptop. Once I recorded it I inputted the clip to iMovie so I could add in some text slides of information, and audio for some finishing touches! Then I simply shared it to my youtube channel! Unfortunately when I uploaded it to youtube the title slides were removed, so if anyone has any advice on how to stop that from happening next time that would be really appreciated! Here is my final product!
To complete this video assignment I first thought of a couple life hacks I actually use semi regularly! Once I came up with my three ideas I started recording! I found this to be the most difficult part because at times there was no one there to record for me, so I had to prop my phone up in certain ways to catch all the material in the frame. After I recorded all of the clips, and took some before and after images. Then I began editing them in iMovie! For this project specifically I decided to add multiple still images (before and after images) and title slides to break up and clarify the different videos. Here is the final product!
The next video assignment I completed this week was Where Do Your Shoes Take You? This assignment was worth 4 stars! To complete this assignment I basically just used my camera on my iPhone to record my various travels throughout my day! I recorded these videos on Monday! I chose Monday because I have three classes that are all across campus on that day which allowed for my footage! After I recored all the individual clips I uploaded them to my computer and inputed them into iMovie. After that I began to add in music, title slides, and transitions! Then I exported the video to my computer desktop and here is the final product!! Can you guess what buildings my shoes took me to this day?
